Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Studio Supply Co collects, why we collect it, who we give it to, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Studio Supply Co. (ABN 52 695 233 869), the registered business name under which we trade.

What we collect

When you place an order:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your shipping and billing address;
  • your phone number, where you give it — couriers ask for it;
  • what you ordered, and your order history with us.

When you pay:

Payment details are entered directly into our payment provider's systems. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, along with the last four digits and the card type, so we can identify the transaction if you contact us about it.

When you browse the site:

  • your IP address, browser and device type;
  • which pages you looked at and how you arrived;
  • cookie identifiers (see "Cookies" below).

When you contact us or subscribe:

  • your email address and whatever you choose to put in your message.

We do not collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not send us any.

Why we collect it

  • to process, pack and ship your order, and to accept returns;
  • to contact you about your order;
  • to take payment and detect fraudulent transactions;
  • to answer your questions;
  • to send marketing email, but only if you have opted in;
  • to understand how the site is used so we can improve it;
  • to meet our record-keeping obligations under Australian tax and consumer law.

If you do not give us the information marked as required at checkout, we cannot process or deliver your order.

Who we disclose it to

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the businesses that make the store work:

  • Shopify — hosts this store, processes orders and stores our customer records;
  • our payment provider — to take and refund payments;
  • delivery partners, such as Australia Post — your name, address and phone number, so they can deliver to you;
  • our email provider — to send order confirmations and, if you have subscribed, newsletters;
  • analytics providers — usage data, generally in aggregated or pseudonymised form.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is reasonably necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety.

Overseas disclosure

This is the part most worth reading. Your personal information is stored and processed outside Australia.

This store runs on Shopify, a Canadian company whose infrastructure is primarily in the United States. Placing an order therefore involves your information being handled in the United States and potentially in Canada and other countries where Shopify and our other providers operate.

We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. However, once information is overseas it may be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by foreign authorities, and Australian privacy law may not apply to it in the same way.

By placing an order you consent to this overseas disclosure. If you are not comfortable with it, please do not order through the site — contact us instead and we will discuss alternatives.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them to:

  • keep your cart working as you move between pages (these are essential — the store will not function without them);
  • remember preferences such as your currency;
  • measure traffic and understand which pages are useful.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the essential ones, the cart and checkout will stop working.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for at least seven years, because Australian tax law requires it. Marketing subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiries that do not result in an order are kept only as long as we need them to deal with the enquiry.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS and card details go directly to our payment provider rather than through us. Access to customer records is limited to people who need it to fill orders. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but if a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email sales@studiosupplyco.com.au. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge, though we may ask you to verify your identity first.

You can also ask us to delete your information. We will do so unless we are required to keep it — order records within the seven-year tax retention period are the usual reason we cannot.

Marketing and unsubscribing

We only send marketing email to people who have opted in. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and we act on it promptly, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires. Unsubscribing does not stop transactional email about an order you have placed.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email sales@studiosupplyco.com.au and we will investigate and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, by phone on 1300 363 992, or by post to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The current version is always the one on this page, and material changes will be noted here.
